Aonami 80

The Aonami 80 is a cruiser – racer sailing yacht designed for long-distance cruising, where performance, range, and onboard comfort are seamlessly integrated into a single, cohesive concept. Its architecture draws inspiration from the principles of simplicity and balance characteristic of Japanese aesthetics, resulting in a sleek silhouette where every element serves a clearly defined purpose. Designed for both short-handed sailing and extended periods at anchor, the project maintains a constant connection with the sea through open living spaces and a fluid onboard layout.

Architecture

The Aonami 80 offers a high level of comfort and livability while preserving a distinctly marine character, supported by a set of sailing qualities that stem directly from its structural and hull design choices. The structure has been optimized and lightened in line with the race-cruising program, reducing weight while preserving lively and stable handling under sail, while maintaining the rigidity necessary for long-distance sailing. The hull, combined with a long bulb keel, ensures both stability and sailing performance in a wide variety of conditions. It prioritises smooth and efficient cruising, capable of covering long distances consistently, while maintaining a consistent reliable performance and a smooth ride, both under sail and at anchor. The deck layout groups the main controls within immediate reach of the helm stations, allowing direct control of the yacht while reducing unnecessary movement while underway. The twin helm configuration creates a continuous central passageway, improving circulation between the bow and stern while reinforcing the clarity of the deck layout and the overall cohérence of the spaces in use. The central sun pad discreetly incorporates the mainsail traveller, allowing for an uncluttered living space without compromising the sail-handling functionality. A hybrid propulsion system combined with solar power completes the package, extending energy autonomy during extended navigation or when anchored off the grid. The same approach to efficiency has guided the integration of the technical equipment, tender garage and storage areas, all carefully arranged to preserve circulation and the continuity of the living spaces.

Layouts

Designed for year-round use, the Aonami 80 features a layout where the exterior living areas naturally extend the interior spaces. At the stern, the cockpit opens wide onto the sea thanks to a swim platform positioned close to the waterline, creating a seamless transition between the yacht and its surroundings. A generous central sun pad forms the focal point of the aft deck discreetly integrating large storage compartments, maintaining a clear view of the deck. Large glazed surfaces, combined with Japanese-inspired louvres, naturally modulate daylight, views and privacy according to different onboard situations. Positioned on a split level, the interior watch station maintains uninterrupted visibility of the horizon while providing a sheltered space suitable for navigation in all weather conditions. The interior is organized around an open-plan layout combining the lounge, galley, and dining area within a continuous composition, where circulation gives way to a continuous sense of space. Forward, the owner’s suite features a more intimate design, enhanced by a skylight that brings natural light and depth to the space. Guest and crew cabins each feature private en-suite bathrooms, ensuring a level of comfort consistent with the demands of extended offshore cruising. The overall design reflects a carefull balance between openness, privacy and functionality, where restrained lines, carefully controlled proportions and a constant relationship with the sea define the character of the project.
